Programs
At Rooted, we facilitate and provide a wide range of programs that promote youth development, provide comprehensive and compassionate support for seniors, and act as a connection point for families to support and care for one another.
We have 10 new programs running on a recurring schedule this summer. All our programs are free and geared toward our neighbors in the Historic South End of Kent.
Trauma Anonymous
Every Saturday 9:00-10:30am, starting June 13 | Meet in the CaféLed by Matt Haines and Sabina Zarlenga from Precision Trauma Therapy Center, Trauma Anonymous is a peer-led support group for individuals who have experienced trauma—whether from abuse, violence, accidents, loss, disaster, childhood experiences, or any other overwhelming event that continues to impact daily life. This group provides a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space for people to come together and share their stories, struggles, and hopes for healing.
New Parent 101
4th Wednesday of the month 1-2 pm, starting July 22 | Meet in the ClassroomNew Parent 101 is a supportive monthly program designed for parents of babies from birth to one year old. Led by Sue Gilliland, a retired Pediatric Physical Therapist with over twenty years of experience teaching at the Cleveland Pregnancy Center, this one-hour class offers practical instruction on typical infant development milestones and the benefits of infant massage. Through gentle guidance and hands-on interaction, participants learn together, build confidence, and strengthen the precious bond with their baby in a warm, encouraging environment.
The Thursday Thing - Youth Fun Night
1st Thursday of the month starting 7-9pm, starting July 2 | Meet in the CaféLed by Hannah Pellegrino-Culver, The Thursday Thing is a monthly fun hang-out time for kids and teens ages 6-18. Led by a fun group of young adults with backgrounds in youth ministry, kids will experience an environment of friendship and fun. Each month the activity will be different - things like outdoor games, cook outs, party games, competitions, etc. Invite friends come ready to have fun.
Lego Club
Every other Tuesday 4-5pm, starting July 14 | Meet in the CaféLed by Abigail, Boaz and David Bollenbacher, Lego Club is a fun, creative program for kids offering open-ended building time with Lego bricks. Each one-hour session features free build time where kids can create whatever they imagine, with optional building prompts to spark new ideas. The club will run every other Tuesday throughout the summer, but will shift to once a month during the school year. Lego bricks are provided.
Creatives Open Studio
Every other Wednesday 6:30-8:30pm, starting July 8th | Meet in the CaféLed by Emily Bollenbacher, Creatives Open Studio offers a welcoming space for creatives to gather, create, and connect in community. Bring a project you’re already working on or start something new with provided supplies. Whether you’re an artist, writer, maker, or simply enjoy being creative, come spend time creating alongside others, building friendships, and occasionally learning new skills through special classes or activities. We will provide some art supplies, but feel free to bring your own if you have them. This program is primarily for middle school age through adults - age 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Nature Camp
Every Wednesday 2-5pm, starting July 1 through August 12 | Meet in the CaféLed by Christa Bollenbacher, Nature Camp is a camp for children ages 6 to 10 where they can enjoy afternoons outdoors observing nature, making new friends and enjoying summer activities. Kids will participate in learning about nature, playing games, making crafts, and meeting new friends. Medical and liability releases are required for registration.
Sittercise
Monday, July 6 & Monday August 3, 5-6pm | Meet in the ClassroomLed by Julianne Manning, Sittercise is a gentle, chair-based fitness class designed specifically for seniors. This program allows participants to improve strength, flexibility, balance, circulation, and overall mobility — all while seated comfortably in a chair. Each session includes a variety of guided movements, light stretching, and simple exercises. Perfect for all fitness levels, including those with limited mobility, Sittercise helps seniors stay active, increase energy, reduce stiffness, and support independence in a safe, supportive, and social environment. No standing or floor work is required.
Community Meal
Last Saturday of the month 5:30 - 7:00pm, starting June 27 | Meet in the CaféA Free Community Meal is hosted at Rooted once a month with the hope of providing a space for the Historic South End residents to connect with each other and with Rooted. Come get to know our team and some of your neighbors. All are welcome.
Table Talks: Conversations on Faith & Modern Life
Every other Sunday 11am-1pm, starting July 12 | Meet in the ClassroomLed by Tree City Church, Table Talks is a thoughtful discussion group that explores timeless wisdom on real-life topics such as depression, anxiety, family relationships, hope, purpose, and more. Using the Bible as a guide, each session kicks off with a casual, 30-minute talk that uses the Bible as a guide to offer practical insights. Afterwards, we will share a meal and have conversations in a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment. Whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time, seeking encouragement through difficult seasons, or simply interested in learning what the Bible actually says about important life issues, you are welcome here. No prior knowledge or religious background is required. Come as you are to ask questions, share thoughts, and find encouragement alongside others. (And don't worry about the kids—free childcare is provided!)
Home Repair Basics
Third Thursday of the month 6:30-8pm, starting July 16 | Meet in the CaféLed by Jon Farrell and Josh Lehman, Home Repair Basics is a practical, beginner-friendly class that teaches essential home maintenance and simple repair skills. Each session covers useful topics such as fixing common household issues, basic plumbing, electrical safety, drywall repair, painting, and general upkeep to help homeowners save money and gain confidence in caring for their homes. The class is ideal for new homeowners, renters, or anyone looking to learn fundamental skills in a relaxed, step-by-step environment. Tools and materials will be provided during class. No previous experience is necessary.
